A tragic incident occurred at an Italian hotel where a 12-year-old boy, Matteo Brandimarti, lost his life after being pulled into a jacuzzi filter. Matteo was enjoying the hotel’s spa with his family on Easter Sunday when his leg became trapped in the jacuzzi’s nozzle during the hydromassage function. Despite efforts to free him, Matteo was stuck underwater for nearly five minutes before being rescued by hotel staff.
Emergency services arrived promptly and performed CPR on Matteo, successfully restarting his heart. He was then airlifted to the hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, on April 9, doctors declared Matteo brain dead due to cardiac arrest and severe brain damage caused by lack of oxygen. With the consent of his parents, Matteo was placed on life support equipment before the decision was made to switch it off to proceed with organ donation.
The Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into involuntary manslaughter related to the incident, although currently, there are no suspects. The spa facilities have been closed for inspection by the Local Health Authority to assess the hot tub system thoroughly. Experts are examining the design of the nozzles, vents, and protective grilles to identify any potential irregularities.
Matteo’s father shared a poignant photo of his son on Facebook following the tragedy, receiving an outpouring of condolences from well-wishers. The community expressed deep sorrow and sympathy for the family during this difficult time.
