Date:

A couple from North London, Dounia Chetaouat, 32, and Abdelkader Essid, 44, are facing murder charges following the tragic death of their three-month-old son. Emergency services responded to a call at their residence in Finchley on January 30, where they discovered the infant unresponsive. Despite immediate medical attention, the baby passed away in the hospital.

The authorities have arrested both parents and are holding them in custody as they await a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of the child’s death. Scheduled to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, the couple is part of an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police, who urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.

In a statement, the Met Police stated that the parents were charged after emergency services were summoned to their North Finchley home. The baby, referred to as Baby A, was found unresponsive and was quickly taken to the hospital but succumbed to significant injuries. The parents were initially arrested for suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and later charged with causing serious physical harm to a child.

Tragically, Baby A passed away despite medical efforts on February 17, leading to further charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child against the parents. Dounia Chetaouat and Abdelkader Essid are set to appear in court on February 23, as detectives continue to seek information on the case. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact the authorities or provide anonymous tips through Crimestoppers.
