“Iran Faces Economic Distress as Trump Rejects Strait of Hormuz Deal”

Date:

President Donald Trump has asserted that Iran is facing severe economic distress after turning down Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump recently declared a more assertive stance towards Iran by sharing an image of himself holding an assault rifle in front of a backdrop of missile strikes, captioned “No more Mr Nice Guy.”

In response to Iran’s offer to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its port blockade and initiating discussions on nuclear activities, Trump conveyed a strong message, stating, “They are struggling significantly. The situation will worsen for them as they seek resolution. I am hesitant to lift the blockade due to concerns about their nuclear ambitions.”

The Iranian national currency, the rial, hit a historic low against the dollar on Wednesday at 1.8 million, amid the fragile peace with the US and Israel.

Furthermore, Trump highlighted the strain on Iran’s oil infrastructure, noting the mounting pressure on storage and pipelines, causing delays in deliveries. Discussions with oil industry leaders have reportedly been held to strategize contingency plans in the event of a prolonged blockade in the strait.

The US naval blockade, enforced during the ceasefire, has exacerbated Iran’s already fragile economy by disrupting crucial revenue streams and foreign currency inflows through the interception of oil shipments.

In his recent social media post titled “No more Mr Nice Guy,” Trump criticized Iran’s handling of negotiations on a non-nuclear pact, hinting at Tehran’s proposed peace plan that delays nuclear talks.

Reports indicate that Iran has proposed ending the chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifts its port blockade and brings the conflict to a conclusion, a suggestion relayed through Pakistan. However, Trump is unlikely to accept this proposal, considering it fails to address the core issue that sparked the conflict with Israel on February 28, primarily concerning Iran’s nuclear program.
