“UK Set for Hottest Day Yet as Sahara Heat Wave Approaches”

Date:

The upcoming weather forecast predicts that Thursday may bring the hottest day of the year so far, fueled by a surge of heat originating from the Sahara Desert. According to the Met Office’s latest 10-day forecast, meteorologist Alex Deakin mentioned that a combination of “dust” and “warmer air” is set to be swept up from the Sahara towards the UK on a southerly breeze.

Projections from the Met Office maps indicate that temperatures in various UK cities could rise significantly. London is expected to reach 18°C, while Cardiff may experience 16°C, Manchester could see highs of 17°C, and Newcastle may reach 15°C. Conversely, Northern Ireland and Scotland are likely to have cooler temperatures, with Edinburgh potentially hitting 14°C.

Deakin also highlighted the possibility that certain areas could see temperatures as high as 19°C. He stated, “The influx of warmer air will likely result in peak temperatures on Thursday, particularly in eastern England, with temperatures reaching 18-19°C in some locations.”

Comparatively, Barcelona is forecasted to have a high of 14°C tomorrow, while Athens and Zante could see temperatures of 17°C. Last week, Kew Gardens recorded a peak of 18.7°C, marking the highest temperature of the year thus far. The Met Office anticipates that temperatures on Thursday could surpass this previous record.

Furthermore, temperature anomaly maps indicate that temperatures are expected to soar well above the seasonal norm. Areas highlighted in deep red on the maps, predominantly in England, Wales, and parts of Scotland, signify regions where temperatures are projected to exceed typical levels for this time of year.

Looking ahead to Thursday, Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick outlined the weather pattern, mentioning a band of cloud and rain moving from western areas towards the east. She expects mostly fine conditions to prevail to the east of this band, with extended periods of sunshine until the rain reaches the eastern regions.

The BBC Weather forecast for Thursday predicts cloud and rain in western Scotland and Northern Ireland, gradually spreading to eastern Scotland, Wales, and parts of western England by evening. Elsewhere, dry weather with sunshine is expected.

Additionally, the BBC forecast suggests that Friday will bring plenty of sunshine in some areas, with England and Wales likely to be mostly cloudy but dry. Meanwhile, Scotland and Northern Ireland are anticipated to have sunny spells.

As the weekend approaches, Saturday is expected to remain dry for the most part, with increasing cloud cover and the best chance of brightness in the north. Sunday’s forecast indicates variable cloud cover with isolated showers possible in the south-west region.
