Britons are being advised to take precautionary measures in 25 areas under flood warnings due to heavy rainfall. The United Kingdom has experienced significant downpours, particularly in the southern regions, as shown by weather patterns moving across the country from the Atlantic.
The Environment Agency has issued guidelines for those in flood-prone areas, predominantly near the south coast, outlining four essential safety steps to follow. These include shutting off gas, electricity, and water supplies in case of a flood warning, avoiding electrical switches when standing in water.
Additionally, individuals are advised to relocate their family, vehicles, pets, and essential belongings to higher ground or upper floors, utilize flood protection tools like barriers or air brick covers if available, and heed instructions from local authorities or emergency services, which may include evacuation orders.
Meteorologist Alex Burkill from the Met Office has forecasted continued rainfall across the nation, with a band of rain moving from northern England through Wales towards the southwest. While some regions may experience drier conditions, rain is expected to persist in many parts of England and Wales throughout the day.
The exact trajectory of the rain is still subject to change, but it is anticipated to extend over southern and eastern areas later in the day.
