Soham murderer Ian Huntley allegedly made a purchase of a video game titled Dark Souls: Prepare to Die for Xbox shortly before his death. The 52-year-old passed away in the hospital after being assaulted at HMP Frankland on February 26, where he was serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
The game, which arrived at the prison three days post his demise, involves players breaking a curse by fulfilling an ancient prophecy, battling to collect souls and upgrade weaponry along the journey. Inmates at the prison, known as ‘Monster Mansion,’ were reportedly making dark humor comments upon the game’s delivery, questioning if Huntley had a foreboding regarding it.
Prior to this incident, Huntley had his Xbox confiscated as a disciplinary measure in January due to misbehavior. Reports suggest he had lost privileges for violating rules on discipline and possessing contraband items such as DVDs, USB sticks, and magazines in his cell. He admitted to the infractions leading to the removal of his Xbox console.
Durham Constabulary announced that Anthony Russell, 43, also an inmate at HMP Frankland, had been charged with Huntley’s murder. Russell appeared in court via videolink for a brief preliminary hearing and is scheduled for a pre-trial preparation hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on April 24.
