“Two Arrested for Attempted Access of UK Nuclear Submarine Base”

Date:

Two individuals have been arrested and charged for their attempt to access the naval base that accommodates the four nuclear submarines of the United Kingdom, as confirmed by the authorities.

The incident took place at HM Naval Base Clyde, also known as Faslane, and involved a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman. The duo tried to enter the base near Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute, but their efforts were unsuccessful, according to the Royal Navy.

Police Scotland reported that they were alerted about the situation around 5 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026. The Iranian man and the Romanian woman were taken into custody and are facing charges related to the incident. They are scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday, March 23, while investigations are ongoing.

A spokesperson from the Royal Navy previously stated that two individuals had been apprehended by Police Scotland for their failed attempt to access HM Naval Base Clyde. As the matter is currently under investigation, no further comments have been provided.

Faslane serves as the base for the UK’s four Trident-armed ballistic missile submarines, which are equipped with Trident nuclear missiles. Additionally, the facility houses the Royal Navy’s seven Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarines, each capable of launching Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles with precision targeting capabilities extending hundreds of miles inland.
