The UK is set to experience snowfall this week, as per the latest forecast from the Met Office. The national weather agency has issued warnings of temperatures dropping as low as -5C in certain regions, with BBC forecasters also predicting snow on Wednesday.
Wednesday is expected to be notably colder across all areas, according to the Met Office forecast. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates mentioned that the drop in temperatures could come as a surprise to many.
The Met Office anticipates rain, sleet, and hail showers to be widespread, with snow likely in northern higher ground. The BBC forecast aligns with this, indicating a chilly and windy day with sunny intervals and wintry showers over hills on Wednesday.
Despite potential sunshine in lower areas, the Met Office cautions that conditions will feel cold due to wind chill. Temperatures are forecasted to decrease further by Wednesday evening, possibly reaching -5C in rural parts of Scotland.
Moving into Thursday, the Met Office predicts most places to remain dry with some sunny periods, although cloud and rain may move into Northern Ireland and western regions later in the day. From Friday onwards, temperatures are expected to return to average levels, with the possibility of weather systems affecting northern areas over the weekend.
Looking ahead, the Met Office suggests that the upcoming weekend will bring changeable conditions, with frontal systems bringing rain and strong winds at intervals across the UK. The forecast for March 28 to April 6 indicates that northern regions are likely to experience more active weather fronts, resulting in wetter and windier conditions compared to the south. Temperatures are expected to be around average levels, with the potential for overnight frost in clear skies and light winds.
