Iranian Detainee Released from UK Naval Base

Date:

An individual from Iran has been released from detention after an alleged attempted intrusion at the naval base housing Britain’s nuclear submarines.

Authorities have determined that there will be no legal actions taken against a 31-year-old woman from Romania who was also apprehended and accused by law enforcement in connection with the purported incident.

Both the man and the woman were apprehended on March 19 at HM Naval Base Clyde, also known as Faslane, and subsequently charged. They were scheduled to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday.

Faslane serves as the headquarters for the UK’s submarine fleet and the Trident nuclear deterrent.

A spokesperson from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service stated, “The Procurator Fiscal was informed about a 34-year-old man linked to an alleged incident on March 19, 2026. After thorough examination of the case’s details and circumstances, he was released from custody for further investigations and did not attend court. The charges against him are still being reviewed.”

Regarding the woman, the spokesperson mentioned, “Upon evaluating the facts and evidence available, the Procurator Fiscal decided not to pursue legal proceedings. However, the Crown reserves the option to proceed in the future if additional evidence emerges.”
