Cleveland Police Issues Update One Year After Human Remains Found at Recycling Facility

A year after the discovery of human remains at a recycling facility, Cleveland Police has provided new information. The incident took place at the Hartlepool site on Sunday, March 30 last year when staff found bones, prompting the dispatch of detectives and forensic officers. Analysis confirmed the bones were human.

Following the discovery, forensic experts were present at the Biffa recycling facility on Brenda Road, with two blue tents set up at the main entrance. Cleveland Police completed its preliminary examination after a week at the Tofts Farm Industrial Estate location.

Cleveland Police has now confirmed that the remains belong to a man, with investigations ongoing. The force disclosed that the recycled materials at the facility came from Durham, Derbyshire, East Cheshire, and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Pringle stated, “Despite a year passing since the discovery, the investigation is ongoing and will continue in the coming year. We have been seeking specialized advice and expertise, collaborating with organizations like the National Crime Agency and advancing forensic work.”

Pringle added, “Identifying the individual in such a complex investigation will take time. I urge anyone with information to contact the police. You can reach Cleveland Police at 101, quoting reference number 055296. Alternatively, you can provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.”
