“Easter Holiday Prices Fluctuate Amid Middle East Conflict”

Date:

Holiday prices during the Easter period have shown fluctuations to different destinations due to the ongoing Middle East conflict. Families are altering their travel plans as a result of the war, with reduced interest in vacationing in nearby regions like Turkey and Egypt. However, there remains strong demand among Brits for sunny getaways, with a shift towards popular western Mediterranean destinations like Spain and Portugal.

According to TravelSupermarket, the cost of a seven-night family holiday to Dalaman, Turkey, has decreased to £508.43 per person from £556.69 before the conflict began. Similarly, the average price for a week-long trip to Croatia has dropped to £576.20 from £608.46 for the same period pre-crisis.

Conversely, prices have risen notably for other destinations, possibly influenced by changes in demand and typical booking trends. For instance, the average price for a week in Ibiza has increased from £532 to £540, while Majorca now costs £570.26 compared to £515.62 previously, resulting in a £53.64 rise per person or £218 for a family of four.

Although some destinations have seen price reductions, such as Spain’s Costa Brava, where the average cost is now £430.20 per person compared to £445.80 earlier, the overall trend indicates varying price shifts across different locations.

Chris Webber, head of holidays and deals at TravelSupermarket, emphasized the importance of comparing prices early and booking in advance to secure deals. He highlighted that certain destinations have become more affordable, including Corfu and Dalaman, potentially due to traveler uncertainties surrounding the Middle East situation.

Looking ahead, the impact of holiday prices is expected to persist post-Easter and potentially worsen as oil prices surge and jet fuel shortages loom, possibly leading to increased fares and flight disruptions if the conflict persists unresolved.
