“Cold Easter Weekend: Rain and Snow Forecast for UK”

Date:

Britain is gearing up for a cold Easter weekend with unsettled weather patterns sweeping across the nation, bringing rain and snow, according to the latest weather forecasts.

Recent weather maps from WXcharts, utilizing MetDesk data, indicate that a significant amount of rain is expected to hit the country on Saturday, April 4. This system is projected to bring heavy rainfall for several hours, coinciding with some snowfall as the UK transitions away from winter.

The rain is forecasted to be concentrated along coastal areas of the UK, with substantial precipitation expected from early morning until late at night.

Parts of southern Scotland, particularly the hardest-hit region, could experience up to 4mm/hr of rainfall by 9pm on Saturday. The following day, the rain is predicted to move eastward, drenching a considerable stretch of the UK from Edinburgh to Dorset, covering a distance of around 400 miles.

Sunday is also expected to see snowfall in parts of Scotland and portions of North West England. The Highlands in Scotland might receive over 1mm/hr of snow by midday, while Manchester and Cumbria could see up to 0.5mm/hr, as reported by the Express.

The Met Office has highlighted the challenges of predicting snowfall in the UK compared to continental Europe due to rapidly changing conditions. Their long-range forecast for the Easter weekend and beyond suggests unsettled weather with strong winds and heavy rain dominating the long weekend.

The forecast indicates that the wettest and windiest weather is likely to affect the western and northern regions of the country. Following Easter, a split between northwestern and southeastern areas is expected, with the potential for further wet and windy conditions in the north and west, while the southeast may experience drier spells.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to average overall, with occasional warmer periods possible in the south and east. This forecast follows a mixed spring in 2026, beginning with warm spells known as “Fool’s Spring,” which are short-lived indications that winter is ending.

The return to colder and wetter conditions has been attributed to the influence of colder air from the north, milder air from the south, and moist Atlantic air moving in from the west.
