“UK Braces for Easter Weekend Windstorm”

Date:

More than 50 regions throughout the United Kingdom are preparing for strong winds during the upcoming Easter weekend travel period.

The Met Office has issued fresh yellow weather alerts for wind on Saturday and Sunday, with wind gusts potentially reaching up to 90mph in certain locations. These new wind warnings are in effect for 18 hours from 6 pm on Saturday until 12 pm on Sunday.

According to the Met Office, “A period of exceptionally strong winds later on Saturday and overnight into Easter Sunday morning could result in some damage and disruption to travel.”

Forecasters have advised individuals in the 57 affected areas to take precautions to safeguard property and individuals from harm. They recommend securing loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences.

The windy conditions may lead to travel delays on roads, buses, and trains, with authorities urging the public to adjust travel plans accordingly.

In addition, preparations for potential power outages are emphasized, with suggestions to gather essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities. Coastal residents are reminded to stay safe during stormy weather, as large waves pose a risk even from the shore. Walking near cliffs should be done cautiously, ensuring awareness of the surroundings and keeping dogs on a leash. In case of emergencies, individuals are advised to contact 999 and request assistance from the Coastguard.

The affected regions include Central, Tayside and Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, North East England, North West England, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, and Yorkshire & Humber.
