President Donald Trump, following his strong statement on Sunday vowing to attack Iranian civilian infrastructure, has escalated his threats by now pledging to destroy “the entire country.”
Concerns about the US president’s intentions to target Iranian civilians have risen after he discussed the timeline for a joint military operation with Israel. During an interview on Sunday, he indicated it should occur within days, contrary to the two to three weeks he had previously suggested.
In a significant escalation, Trump declared Iran has been severely impacted and warned that the situation will worsen with ongoing strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure similar to Russia’s actions in Ukraine. He emphasized the continuous destruction Iran is facing and gave a 48-hour ultimatum for Iran to agree to a deal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating consequences.
In a more recent statement, Trump reiterated his threat to devastate Iran if they do not comply, referring to upcoming “Power Plant Day” and “Bridge Day” in Iran. This follows previous warnings and extensions of deadlines, including a pause in energy plant destruction announced on March 26.
The Speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, condemned Trump’s actions as “war crimes” in a response on Twitter, emphasizing the need to respect the rights of the Iranian people for a peaceful resolution.
The situation remains tense as Trump continues to issue ultimatums and threats towards Iran, prompting international concern and condemnation.
