“Arctic Blast to Hit UK Next Week: Snow and -4C Temperatures Expected”

Date:

New weather maps reveal that certain areas in Britain are set to experience a significant drop in temperature, plunging to -4C. The forecast also suggests the likelihood of snow and sleet in specific regions, including north Wales and western Scotland, around April 14. This abrupt change is expected due to an approaching bitter Arctic air mass, marking a stark contrast to the previously expected highs of 22C, especially in the Southeast of England.

According to WXCharts’ weather maps, based on Metdesk data, wintry conditions are predicted to impact various towns and cities across the UK next week. This weather shift is attributed to a low-pressure system moving in from the west, accompanied by strong southeasterly winds.

The drop in temperatures is expected to start around 6am on April 14, with Scotland facing the coldest conditions, with areas near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands possibly experiencing -4C. Additionally, the Arctic chill is likely to extend southwards, potentially causing sub-zero temperatures in major cities across northern England.

This sudden cold spell follows a period of warm weather, with temperatures reaching 24C earlier in the week in some parts of the UK, particularly in the Southwest of England, Southeast of England, East Midlands, and East of England.

The Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst mentioned that warmer air moving in from the continent will lead to rising temperatures, with highs reaching around 20C to 24C in certain areas. However, the Met Office’s long-range forecast for April 11-20 indicates a continued period of changeable weather, with showers or longer spells of rain affecting many regions.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility of high pressure dominating later in the month, potentially bringing drier and warmer conditions. This shift will depend on the positioning of the high-pressure system relative to the UK.
