Armed officers fatally shot a dog today following an attack on a man in Merseyside. Responding to reports of two loose dogs on Lynton Road in the Hillside area around 10:45 am, armed response officers arrived at the scene.
The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained injuries to his stomach and arm during the incident but is in stable condition in the hospital. Another man in his 70s was also approached aggressively by the dogs but was unharmed.
To ensure public safety and prevent further harm, armed police, along with specialist dog officers, decided to euthanize one of the dogs involved. A police firearm was discharged during the confrontation, leading to the capture of the second dog by dog patrols. Authorities confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
A cordon remains in place on Lynton Road as investigations continue. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as police dealt with the situation, with one resident recalling being instructed to seek shelter inside by the police.
