Liverpool Teenager Found Dead in Wrexham Lake

Date:

A teenager, identified as Ashamekh Bortata, a 17-year-old Libya-born student from Liverpool, was tragically discovered deceased in a lake near Wrexham. The incident occurred on April 7 when emergency services responded to a distress call reporting the teenager’s drowning in the lake near Chirk Castle. An inquest into the teenager’s death was initiated in Ruthin, North Wales.

According to Coroner John Gittins, the emergency services were alerted by a friend of the teenager on the afternoon of April 7, reporting the drowning. Upon arrival, the police encountered a group of young individuals who had journeyed from Liverpool and ventured through the castle grounds. The group had navigated through woodland and approached the lake, where Ashamekh entered the water.

The North Wales Fire Service also participated in the search operation alongside the police, which extended to the following day when divers located the teenager’s body in the lake.

The coroner revealed that a preliminary assessment by a pathologist indicated drowning as the probable cause of death. Mr. Gittins emphasized the necessity for further investigation through an inquest, and the hearing was adjourned for this purpose.
