A 17-year-old girl met a tragic end after being electrocuted when a power line snapped as she was crossing the road during heavy rainfall.
Nathaly Rodrigues do Nascimento lost her life on her way to school in Bonfinopolis, Brazil, in a shocking accident. Her daily routine involved waking up early at 4.30 am to go to work before taking a bus back to school.
The fatal incident occurred last Tuesday, September 23, as she was on her way back to school amidst heavy rain. Witnesses reported that Nathaly was electrocuted by two broken power lines while crossing the road in the downpour.
Rejaine Rosa de Oliveira, who witnessed the tragedy, described the moment when Nathaly was fatally shocked by the loose electrical cable during the heavy rain. Police confirmed the live electrical cable at the scene.
Sandra Gouveia, the school headteacher, praised Nathaly as a polite and dedicated student, emphasizing the deep loss her passing represents. Friends and family held a vigil in Bonfinopolis, demanding accountability from Equatorial Goias, the company responsible for electricity pylons in Goiás.
Expressing disbelief over the teenager’s death, a friend named Eduardo Henrique highlighted negligence as the cause rather than an accident. Equatorial Goias expressed regret over the incident and vowed to support the family during this difficult time.
The electrical company acknowledged the accident during the storm, extended sympathy to the victim’s family, and assured full cooperation in the investigation. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the tragic event.
