“Firebombing Incident at London Synagogue Sparks Counterterrorism Probe”

Date:

Counter terrorism authorities are spearheading the inquiry following an alleged “firebombing” incident at a synagogue last night. The occurrence at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow on Saturday evening resulted in minimal smoke damage to an internal room, with no injuries or significant structural harm reported by the Community Security Trust (CST).

Situated near a school and children’s playground, the building saw police investigating a black SUV in the vicinity on Sunday morning. A substantial cordon has been established, with a forensics officer, fire investigators, canine units, and undercover officers working at the scene. A total of one marked and five unmarked police vehicles were stationed outside the religious establishment.

This incident coincides with a series of arson or attempted arson attacks on Jewish properties across north-west London in recent weeks. The Metropolitan Police mentioned that officers, conducting deterrence and reassurance patrols following the prior incidents, noticed damage to a synagogue window at around midnight last night.

“On closer examination, they discovered smoke inside a room and evidence suggesting a bottle containing an accelerant had been thrown through the window,” the police force stated.

A representative from CST, an organization monitoring antisemitism and safeguarding Jewish communities in the UK, commented on the situation. They acknowledged another attempted arson at a synagogue in north London, following similar incidents in Finchley, Golders Green, and Hendon. Despite minor smoke damage to an internal room, no injuries or major structural harm were reported.

Expressing gratitude to the swift response from the Met Police and London Fire Brigade, the CST spokesperson highlighted ongoing efforts to protect the Jewish community amid these challenging circumstances.

“We are assisting the affected location and collaborating closely with the police in their investigation to identify the perpetrators. We urge the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police or CST,” the spokesperson added.

A Campaign Against Antisemitism representative remarked on the incident at Kenton, stating, “Last night, another Jewish synagogue in London was subjected to a firebomb attack, fortunately resulting in limited damage.” They expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such incidents targeting the Jewish community.
