A British tourist was swiftly taken to the hospital after plunging from the second story of a Lanzarote hotel into a shallow fish pond containing Koi carp and terrapins.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical personnel, worked together to rescue the vacationer following the incident at the prestigious H10 Rubicon Horizons Collection in the sought-after Playa Blanca resort.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday. The fish pond where the 70-year-old individual fell, positioned about two floors below street level by a hotel buffet restaurant, had a water depth of only around 15 inches.
Although details of the event surfaced over the weekend, specific information regarding the man’s age and nationality was only confirmed recently. Sources familiar with the situation mentioned that it was deemed an accident, suggesting that the man was on the second floor with his wife, leaned over to observe the fish pond below, lost his balance, and fell.
Upon the arrival of firefighters, medical staff had already secured the elderly tourist with a neck brace. Using a rescue board, they carefully lifted him out before transferring him to an awaiting ambulance.
The injured individual was then transported to Molina Orosa Hospital in the capital city of Arrecife on Lanzarote. Presently, there is no immediate update on his condition.
Following the incident, local police and Civil Guard officers were activated by a regional government emergency response coordination center.
The hotel, previously known as the H10 Rubicon Palace but recently rebranded, declined to provide any comments citing client confidentiality.
Describing itself as an adult-only seafront retreat, the establishment is advertised online as a five-star resort featuring interior design inspired by the aesthetics of Lanzarote. Playa Blanca, the southernmost town on Lanzarote, is particularly favored by British holidaymakers.
