A mother who hurried to the emergency room fearing a serious pregnancy complication received surprising news from doctors – she was not facing a cyst but was actually pregnant with quadruplets.
April Fields, 25, only eight weeks pregnant, experienced severe stomach pains that hindered her mobility. Worried about her condition, she rushed to the hospital, where she learned the unexpected truth. April recalled, “I thought it was a cyst. The pain kept worsening, and I could barely walk.”
During a scan, medical staff quickly realized this was not a typical pregnancy. One nurse, after asking, “How would you feel if there was more than one?” left the room in silence.
In a state of shock, April said, “I was so surprised I could hardly speak. Initially, I thought they were joking, but then I saw all four heartbeats on the screen.”
Already parents to three young children, April and her husband Shawnpail Fields, 24, had not planned for another child, let alone four.
Despite the initial shock turning into excitement, doctors cautioned that the pregnancy would be high-risk. They even suggested reducing the number of babies for better survival odds – a heartbreaking choice the couple refused.
April explained, “It meant terminating the weakest of the four, but we couldn’t bear to do that. We wanted to give all of them a chance.”
As the pregnancy progressed, April’s bump grew rapidly, leading to her hospitalization for constant monitoring at 25 weeks. Another surprise came when it was discovered that one of the babies was a girl, initially believed to be all boys.
In July 2025, April gave birth via caesarean to three boys – Artemis, Denahi, and Curtis – and a daughter, Eudora. Although born healthy, the babies were immediately taken to intensive care due to their premature birth.
After a hospital stay, the babies gradually went home, completing the family of nine. Despite the challenges of caring for seven kids under six, April expressed her contentment, saying, “I often struggle to find five minutes to myself, but I wouldn’t change anything.”
