Claire’s is preparing to make a comeback on the high street by opening 50 new stores following the closure of all its 154 UK locations. Kroll administrators announced the recent closures, affecting approximately 1,300 employees. However, Claire’s 356 concessions and head office remain unaffected.
According to reports from The Guardian, Claire’s is expected to gradually reopen four to 10 stores per week starting in June. Julien Jarjoura, who operates Claire’s stores in several European countries, is finalizing new lease agreements with UK landlords to self-fund these new stores. The revamped stores will offer ear-piercing services along with a range of jewelry and accessories starting at £1.90, with some items priced over £100.
Jarjoura expressed optimism about revitalizing the Claire’s brand, which had faced challenges from online competitors in recent years. The company, originally founded in the US and introduced in the UK in 1996, had experienced financial difficulties, leading to its administration under Modella Capital.
This marks the second administration for Claire’s within a short period, with the closure of 145 stores and loss of around 1,000 jobs during the previous administration. Kroll’s spokesperson confirmed the cessation of all standalone Claire’s stores in the UK and Ireland, with discussions underway for potential new leases with interested parties.
Consumers with outstanding orders at Claire’s received advice from consumer expert Kat Cereda on potential recourse options, including credit card protections and claims processes. The brand’s potential resurgence on the high street signals a new chapter for Claire’s amidst its recent challenges.
