A 40-year-old woman from Logan Reserve in Queensland, Australia, is facing charges of neglect and torture in connection with a 10-year-old girl who has been hospitalized for nearly three months. She is accused of failing to provide necessary care to the child and of committing acts of torture.
The young girl was admitted to Brisbane’s Queensland Children’s Hospital on February 9, where she was found to be severely dehydrated, critically malnourished, and with untreated injuries. Currently, she remains in the ICU in stable condition, according to a statement from Queensland Police.
Investigations into the case are ongoing. In a separate incident in the Northern Territory, authorities discovered the body of a missing five-year-old girl. The child, referred to by the family as Kumanjayi Little Baby after her passing, disappeared from a home on the outskirts of Alice Springs. Subsequently, riots broke out following the apprehension of a suspect believed to be responsible for her abduction and murder.
The girl’s body was located approximately three miles away from where she was last seen, and the suspect, Jefferson Lewis, 47, was found by the Northern Territory Police. Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered a large crowd that had already taken matters into their own hands, assaulting the suspect.
