“Fundraiser Launched for Child in Coma After Inhaling Cake Dust”

Date:

A fundraiser has been established to gather financial support for the family of a young child who is currently hospitalized in critical condition after accidentally inhaling cake decorating dust. The child is fighting for his life after ingesting decoration powder while his mother was baking a birthday cake.

Following the incident, the child is now in a medically induced coma and requires assistance to breathe. The unfortunate incident occurred when his mother was preparing a Bluey-themed cake for a friend’s child. The cake decorating powder, when mixed with moisture, can form a paste that may obstruct the airways.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by family friend Rochelle Evrard revealed that the toddler came into contact with “gold dust powder” during the baking process, leading to him becoming unresponsive, necessitating an urgent emergency call.

Rochelle explained, “When the dust is mixed with water it turns to paste – so it immediately blocked Dusty’s lungs.” Dusty has undergone surgery to clear his lungs and is currently in critical condition at the hospital. He is scheduled for another procedure to adjust his breathing tube and allow medical professionals to reassess his lungs.

The child is still reliant on external breathing support, with his parents steadfastly staying by his side. The family has moved from the Gold Coast to Brisbane for urgent medical care, incurring escalating accommodation expenses. To date, $11,994 (£6,332) has been raised to aid them during this challenging time.
