However, a recent book reveals a different initial impression Trump had of Charles when they first met in 2019 at Clarence House. Former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham disclosed that Trump found the conversation with Charles “terrible,” a sentiment echoed in a new book by Susan Page, titled The Queen and Her Presidents.
Page’s book suggests that Trump was uninterested and felt “bored” by Charles during their meeting due to their focus on climate change discussions. Despite Trump’s earlier negative views, he later admitted to a change of heart regarding Charles’ commitment to environmental issues.
Following their initial encounter, Trump acknowledged Charles’ dedication to climate change, expressing agreement with the importance of ensuring a positive climate for future generations. Over time, Trump’s opinion of Charles improved, and he praised the success of the monarch’s visit to the US.
As the King concluded his visit to the US, Trump announced the lifting of Scottish whisky tariffs, attributing the decision to Charles. A senior royal aide affirmed the genuine and respectful relationship between Charles and Trump, emphasizing the positive dynamic among all four individuals involved.
Despite potential challenges in their relationship, the aide highlighted the warmth and mutual respect shared between Charles and Trump, both publicly and in private interactions.
