Robert explained that “Cwtch,” a Welsh term for cuddle, was selected as the perfect name due to the joey’s affinity for cuddling and spending most of its time nestled in the pouch with its mother. Expressing gratitude to Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte for their assistance in naming the kangaroo, Robert, who manages Australia Zoo in Queensland and supports Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, emphasized the importance of conservation efforts to protect Australia’s wildlife and habitats.
During a previous royal visit to Australia in 2014, Prince George had the opportunity to meet a bilby named George at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Surrounded by kangaroos, Robert highlighted the crucial role these animals play in Australia’s ecosystem by maintaining grassland health and minimizing fire risks through grass level control.
