“Ex-Soldier Sentenced to Prison for Relentless Harassment”

Date:

A judge has sentenced a former soldier to five years in prison for a relentless and “terrifying” harassment campaign against his ex-partner, branding him a danger to women. Michael Ferndale, 52, launched a series of false accusations against Kate Watkin, including domestic abuse, fraud, espionage, and more, after their relationship ended.

Ferndale, a graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy and a Royal Scots Dragoon Guards veteran, was found guilty of stalking and causing serious distress to Watkin between April 2023 and February 2025. Judge Hannah Duncan described him as a “high-risk” individual to his victim and any future partners.

The court heard how Ferndale meticulously spread outrageous lies about Watkin to her family, friends, and employer, aiming to destroy her reputation and career. His actions led to Watkin losing her job and experiencing extreme emotional distress.

During the trial, Watkin tearfully recounted the nearly two-year ordeal she endured at the hands of Ferndale. She detailed how he systematically targeted every aspect of her life, causing fear and turmoil for everyone involved.

Despite his defense highlighting his charitable endeavors and military service, the prosecution emphasized Ferndale’s disturbing behavior, which escalated into threats and unfounded accusations. Watkin’s testimony painted a picture of a once-charming individual who quickly turned aggressive and manipulative, leaving her feeling unsafe and traumatized.

Ultimately, the court recognized the severity of Ferndale’s actions and their lasting impact on Watkin’s well-being. The prosecution highlighted the transformation of a confident individual into one crippled by anxiety and fear due to the relentless harassment campaign.

Ferndale’s sentencing serves as a warning against such destructive behavior, highlighting the need to address and prevent domestic harassment and abuse.
