Tom Hiddleston Visits Ukrainian Refugee Children in Moldova

Date:

Avengers actor Tom Hiddleston recently interacted with children who had to flee their homes due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine led by Vladimir Putin. During a visit to Chișinău, Moldova, Tom spent time at Unicef-supported schools and education centers catering to Ukrainian refugee children and their mothers.

At the Divertis Day Centre in Chișinău, funded by Unicef, Tom met nine-year-old Milana and her mother Yulia, who escaped from Kherson, Ukraine. Milana continues her education online while engaging in various activities at the center to help her cope with the challenges of displacement.

After meeting the families, Tom expressed his observations, highlighting the stark contrast between the children’s resilience and the hardships faced by their mothers. He praised Unicef’s efforts in providing a safe and nurturing environment for the children, enabling them to thrive and feel secure.

Tom documented his visit for an upcoming screening during Soccer Aid, where he will participate for the third time. The invasion in Ukraine has resulted in a significant displacement crisis, with millions seeking refuge in neighboring countries like Moldova. Unicef has been actively supporting displaced children by offering educational and psychosocial assistance.

During his trip, Tom listened to mothers recounting their perilous journey to safety, emphasizing the importance of Unicef’s protective measures for the children. He acknowledged the resilience of the families and the critical role played by organizations like Unicef in ensuring the well-being of displaced children.

Reflecting on the impact of Unicef’s work, Tom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness firsthand the difference being made in the lives of these families. Unicef UK CEO, Philip Goodwin, emphasized the ongoing support needed for children affected by the conflict, underscoring the significance of initiatives like Soccer Aid in providing essential aid and stability to those in need.

Tickets for Soccer Aid are now available for purchase, with proceeds contributing to the support and care of children affected by conflict and crises. Donations can also be made ahead of the event to further assist in the humanitarian efforts.
