A Ryanair flight destined for Spain had to return to the UK due to a mid-air emergency. The aircraft, Flight FR7842, took off from Glasgow Prestwick Airport at approximately 7:30 am for a routine trip to Murcia, reaching an altitude of 35,000 feet. About an hour into the flight, the crew signaled a general emergency by transmitting a Squawk 7700 code after a passenger fell ill.
The plane was redirected over the English Channel towards Stansted Airport, where it safely landed at 9:10 am. Medical staff greeted the passenger upon disembarkation. Originally scheduled to arrive in Spain by 11:50 am, the flight was interrupted by the emergency.
Flight tracking data displayed the Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft executing a sudden U-turn over the English Channel. A Ryanair representative stated, “This flight from Glasgow Prestwick to Murcia International diverted to London Stansted after a passenger fell ill onboard. Crew members preemptively requested medical assistance for the landing at London Stansted Airport. The passenger was promptly attended to by medical personnel.”
