A wealthy individual, with ownership of several popular retail brands like Majestic Wine and Poundstretcher through his private equity firm, was discovered deceased following a heated argument with his spouse, as stated in an inquest.
Joshua Pack, aged 51, was found by cleaning staff in an upper-level bedroom of his rented residence in St John’s Wood, Westminster, shortly after the altercation. The couple had recently moved from the US to the UK to oversee the operations of the investment company Fortress, valued at $50 billion (£37 billion).
Jacqueline Pack, in a written testimony to the inquest, disclosed that she and her husband of 28 years had been engaged in a prolonged dispute leading up to his demise, fueled by intermittent alcohol consumption throughout the day. She described their relationship as enduring but acknowledged the existence of typical marital tensions.
According to Mrs. Pack, the disagreement began during a stroll home when Mr. Pack learned of issues with his upcoming flight arrangements back to the US, which he had attempted to synchronize with his wife’s travel. The situation escalated upon their return to the mansion, culminating in Mr. Pack exhibiting aggressive behavior, including throwing her phone and self-harming with it.
The confrontation further intensified when Mr. Pack retrieved a knife from a cupboard and presented it to Mrs. Pack, urging her to harm him. Despite exchanging threats of self-harm during arguments, Mrs. Pack noted that she never believed Mr. Pack intended to carry out such actions.
Mr. Pack’s lifeless body was discovered by household staff the following day around 3 pm, with the coroner, Prof. Wilcox, ruling the cause of death as misadventure during the inquest.
