Three women were tragically discovered drowned off Brighton seafront after attending a themed student event inspired by David Attenborough. The trio, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were found following a report of a person in the water around 5:45am on Wednesday.
Authorities are looking into the possibility that the women had been partying at the popular bar Quarters. A spokesperson from Quarters confirmed awareness of the incident and cooperation with the police’s investigation.
Witnesses mentioned finding the women’s belongings, including handbags and a coat, on the beach, with coastguard officers searching for more items like phones. The student night at the bar had drawn a large crowd, with students reportedly spilling onto the beach for smoking and drinking.
The women were discovered at different locations along the coast, with two found at Black Rock Beach and the third near Brighton Pier, all fully clothed. Local officials expressed shock and sadness over the incident, extending condolences to the families and recognizing the efforts of emergency responders.
Multiple agencies, including a coastguard helicopter and RNLI lifeboats, were involved in the search and recovery operations. Sussex Police are working on identifying the women and collecting CCTV footage for investigation purposes.
Despite efforts by emergency teams, the women were pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities continue to gather information to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
