“Arrest Made in Abduction of British Toddler in Cyprus”

Date:

The arrest of an alleged accomplice of a Turkish Cypriot man involved in the abduction of his British toddler son in Cyprus has been reported.

According to local authorities, the 29-year-old father took the two-year-old from his British mother’s residence in the popular holiday destination of Limassol with the help of another individual before escaping in a small white car.

Law enforcement officers have apprehended a 53-year-old Turkish Cypriot man believed to have collaborated with the child’s father in the kidnapping, while the father remains at large.

The getaway vehicle, later found within the British Bases, was located by Limassol Deputy police chief, Lefteris Kyriakou, after being searched by the police.

Kyriakou mentioned that the father, who was already wanted for domestic violence, is suspected to have crossed illegally into Cyprus from the northern Turkish-occupied areas of the island.

The incident has been referred to the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime, which deals with shared criminal activities between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, as stated by Kyriakou.

The mother, who is part of the ‘Hope’ program supporting victims of domestic abuse, did not activate the emergency button on her mobile phone during the alleged abduction, possibly due to shock.

Reports from Cypriot news outlet SigmaLive suggest that the suspect utilized a rented vehicle, accompanied by the 53-year-old individual, to reach the mother’s residence. There, he allegedly assaulted the woman and tried to drown her in the pool before taking the 23-month-old child and fleeing.
