A tragic incident in the Maldives involving a group of Italian divers resulted in the death of five individuals, including a university professor, her daughter, and three others. The group had been exploring underwater caves in Vaavu Atoll, with one body found 60m underwater and four others still missing.
Following the disappearance of the divers, rescue teams were deployed, but only one body has been recovered so far. The sixth member of the group, a student who chose not to dive at the last minute, narrowly escaped the tragedy by staying on the yacht. The Minister of University and Research also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the impact on the academic community.
