Belarus Conducts Nuclear Weapons Drills Amid Regional Tensions

Date:

Belarus is currently conducting military training exercises focusing on nuclear weapons operations. The Ministry of Defence announced that military units will engage in drills involving the delivery and readiness of nuclear munitions. Major General Pavel Muraveiko stated that the training includes combat use of nuclear weapons and support.

The purpose of the exercise is to enhance personnel training, assess Armed Forces readiness for various tasks, and practice combat deployment from unanticipated locations. Missile units and aircraft are being mobilized for the training, which is being conducted in collaboration with Russia.

The exercise will evaluate the ability to execute combat missions from unprepared areas across Belarus. Training will cover concealment, long-distance movement, and organizing forces and assets deployment. The Ministry emphasized that the exercise is not targeted at any third party and does not pose a security threat to the region.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised concerns about potential Russian aggression, suggesting a plan to launch an offensive from Belarus. This strategy could potentially target key decision-making centers in Kyiv, putting neighboring countries like Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia at risk due to their borders with Belarus.

Zelensky revealed leaked intelligence indicating Russia’s considerations for operations towards Belarus, either against Ukraine or directly targeting NATO countries from Belarusian territory.
