Police in Co Down, Northern Ireland, have issued a plea for information following an incident where two officers were deliberately struck by a vehicle. The officers, part of the Tactical Support Group from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), were on patrol on Killysorrell Road near Blackskull when they encountered a beige/gold Ford Galaxy with fake number plates.
The officers, driving an unmarked Skoda, trailed the suspect vehicle to Villa Wood Road, where it suddenly reversed into their car. The Ford Galaxy then sped off to Gowdystown Road, where it once again reversed into the police vehicle before fleeing southbound on the A1 carriageway.
As a result of the deliberate collision, both officers sustained injuries requiring medical attention, and their police vehicle was damaged at the front, necessitating repairs and taking it out of service temporarily. Inspector Rice commented on the incident, expressing relief that the injuries were not severe but condemning the targeting of officers working to ensure community safety.
The police are actively investigating the case and urge anyone with relevant information, CCTV footage, or dash-cam recordings to come forward by contacting authorities or submitting details online. Reports can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers as well.
