Keir Starmer has asserted that his strategies to reduce expenses, lower net migration, and enhance economic growth are yielding positive results. This declaration comes amidst Andy Burnham’s return to politics and Wes Streeting’s determination to challenge the Prime Minister. Starmer emphasized his government’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on families and pledged to continue progressing forward.
Despite calls from nearly 100 Labour MPs for the Prime Minister to step down following recent election setbacks, Starmer remains resolute in his position and underscores his track record of accomplishments. Notably, the UK economy experienced a 0.6% growth in the first quarter of the year, surpassing expectations.
Recent statistics also revealed a decrease in UK net migration to 171,000, marking the lowest level since the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, NHS waiting lists decreased to 7.11 million treatments in March, indicating an improvement from the previous month.
In a bid to further ease the cost of living pressure on families, Rachel Reeve announced a reduction in ticket prices for summer attractions like fairs, theme parks, and zoos. The government’s “Great British Summer Savings” scheme includes lowering VAT on these attractions from 20% to 5% and offering discounted children’s meals in restaurants. The initiative, estimated to cost around £300 million, will also provide free bus travel for children aged five to fifteen.
