“Police Shoot, Arrest Suspect in Whitefield Drug Bust”

Date:

A man was shot by police officers in Whitefield after he attempted to flee in a car, leading to a confrontation. Greater Manchester Police reported that the driver refused to stop and drove towards the officers. As a result, a firearms officer fired a shot, injuring the 20-year-old man in the arm.

The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including a suspected broken elbow. Subsequently, detectives discovered drugs and a firearm, leading to the man’s arrest on suspicion of involvement in the supply of Class A drugs.

Following the incident, the police conducted an investigation, including a search at an address in Radcliffe where they found a firearm and a significant quantity of Class A and Class B drugs. Detective Superintendent Joe Harrop commended the officers for their swift and professional response, emphasizing the importance of preventing dangerous weapons and drugs from circulating in the community.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed they are independently investigating the shooting to understand the circumstances fully. They highlighted the rarity of firearms incidents and stressed the importance of independent scrutiny in such cases to gather evidence and ensure transparency.
