Nicola Sturgeon has firmly rejected any awareness of her estranged spouse’s misconduct following his admission of guilt in embezzling £400,310 from the SNP.
Peter Murrell, a former longstanding CEO of the party, confessed to the charges during a court appearance in Edinburgh. The embezzlement allegedly occurred between August 2010 and October 2022, with Murrell acknowledging a revised indictment that lowered the embezzled sum from over £459,000.
In a released statement, Sturgeon expressed a mix of emotions, including anger, hurt, and sadness over her ex-husband’s actions and the impact on their family, friends, and the SNP. She emphasized her shock and disbelief at the misuse of party funds for personal gain, asserting her complete lack of prior knowledge or suspicion.
Sturgeon clarified that she underwent a thorough investigation and was absolved of any wrongdoing, reiterating that she was deceived like others. She acknowledged the likelihood of political repercussions but highlighted the personal turmoil she is navigating and the importance of focusing on her own recovery and future endeavors.
