An infant only eight days old was swiftly taken to a medical facility following a vehicle accident that caused the car to flip over onto its roof in Gloucestershire.
The incident involved a Peugeot 308 colliding with the barrier on the nearside between junctions 1 and 2 of the M50, resulting in the overturning of the vehicle at approximately 6:15 am on Monday. A 37-year-old woman was apprehended on suspicion of operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after an inquiry by law enforcement.
The car’s driver, a woman in her thirties, was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention, while the newborn was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Drivers encountered substantial delays as authorities worked on accident recovery and investigation procedures, as reported by Gloucestershire Live. One lane on the eastbound side of the M50 remains closed to facilitate repairs on the barrier. Traffic came to a halt for several hours as emergency personnel responded to the scene.
Authorities are now seeking witnesses to the incident. A representative from West Mercia Police stated, “We are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the collision or may possess dashcam footage leading up to the event. Individuals with details are urged to contact PC Pickering at paul.pickering@westmercia.police.uk.”
