Experts are issuing stark warnings following the tragic deaths of five teenagers who drowned over the Bank Holiday weekend. The family of a 15-year-old boy, Declan Sawyer, who was found in Swanholme Lakes near Lincoln during the UK’s high-temperature spell, is urging caution around open water.
In Rotherham, South Yorkshire, another teenager went missing while swimming at a country park on Bank Holiday Monday, with authorities confirming the recovery of a body after a search. Tragedy also struck in Dublin, where 15-year-old Abbie Carmody-Pepper lost her life at Burrow Beach. Additionally, a teenage girl was found dead at Kingsbury Water Park in Sutton Coldfield, and a 13-year-old boy drowned in a reservoir in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
Declan’s father, Carl, described him as a beloved young man with a vibrant personality, urging awareness of water dangers amid the ongoing heatwave. Authorities are emphasizing the risks of swimming in open water, highlighting the perils posed by rivers, lakes, and quarries.
