Recently, the ex-Queen of Denmark was readmitted to the hospital just a week after being treated for a heart attack. Queen Margrethe returned to the hospital in Copenhagen due to a blood clot in her hip following an earlier fall. The Danish Royal Palace confirmed this development after stating that she had received treatment for a heart attack.
A statement released mentioned that Queen Margrethe was hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for treatment of a significant blood clot in her hip region resulting from a previous fall. It is anticipated that she will remain in the hospital for a few days and is reported to be in stable condition.
During a fun run event, King Frederik of Denmark, responding to his mother’s health situation, expressed his intention to visit her whenever possible. Queen Mary, Margrethe’s daughter-in-law, informed the media that the queen’s surgery was successful and that she was well looked after.
Margrethe, who served as Denmark’s longest-reigning monarch, abdicated in January 2024 after ruling for 52 years, passing the throne to her eldest son, now-King Frederik. She highlighted concerns about her health as a factor in her decision to step down.
In a speech on New Year’s Eve in 2023, Margrethe mentioned that her recent surgery prompted reflection about her future responsibilities and ultimately led to her decision to abdicate in early 2024.
Shortly after abdicating, Queen Margrethe was hospitalized following a fall at her residence. The head of communications, Lene Balleby, stated that although the queen was stable, she was under observation at the time of admission.
Having received 42 official state visits in her country and conducted 55 foreign state visits during her reign, Queen Margrethe is the most recent female sovereign in the world. Her reign was characterized by a unique and imaginative approach, often displaying an unconventional style and a willingness to address her subjects directly when necessary.
In 2024, Queen Margrethe became the first Danish monarch in nearly 900 years to abdicate when she passed the throne to her son due to health issues that limited her ability to fulfill her duties as before.
