In an interview with CBS News scheduled to air before her memoir release on June 2, Jill expressed her fear, stating that she had never seen Joe in such a state before. She recalled the alarming moment, saying, “I was frightened, because I had never, ever seen Joe like that before or since.”
Describing her concern during the event, Jill mentioned that she thought he might be experiencing a stroke. Despite the challenging performance, she publicly praised Joe for his efforts, affirming, “Joe, you did such a great job. You answered every question, you knew all the facts.”
Following the debate, doubts about Biden’s mental acuity surfaced among both supporters and critics. The White House initially attributed his performance to a cold and jet lag from a recent trip, eventually suggesting that intense debate preparation led to confusion.
Joe Biden’s health had been a topic of discussion since he announced his bid for a second term in April 2023, given his age at the time, being the oldest elected president. Ultimately, under party pressure, Biden withdrew from the presidential race on July 21, 2024, endorsing Kamala Harris as his successor.
