Russian state TV has urged Vladimir Putin to authorize a deadly attack on the UK, criticizing British cuisine in the process. The call for action, coming from a prominent figure on state media, Vladimir Solovyov, specifically targets the production facilities responsible for making Storm Shadow missiles, primarily located in Stevenage.
This demand follows reports of Ukraine deploying Storm Shadow missiles to target a Black Sea Fleet command facility in Sevastopol, located in Crimea, annexed by Putin. There were also allegations of these missiles being used on the Russian military air base Baltimore in the Voronezh region.
Expressing confusion over the lack of retaliation against the UK for the missile strikes, Solovyov questioned the value of the Storm Shadow factory. He disparagingly commented on British cuisine, despite choosing to educate his children in the UK. He further criticized aspects of British culture and society while cautioning against targeting the factory.
Manufactured by MBDA UK, Storm Shadow missiles are produced in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, with additional work carried out in Bristol and Bolton. These missiles, known as SCALP-EG in France, were allegedly used in attacks on the Baltimore military airfield in the Voronezh region, a base frequently utilized for strikes against Ukraine.
Storm Shadow missiles, developed jointly by the UK and France in the 1990s, are air-launched cruise missiles with a range exceeding 155 miles and speeds exceeding 600mph. Recent reports also suggest the use of these missiles in strikes on Sevastopol, targeting a Russian Central Bank building and the alleged headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet’s aerial arm.
In light of these developments, tensions remain high between Russia, the UK, and Ukraine, with concerns over potential escalation of hostilities.
