Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, a trusted equerry to King Charles known for his iconic kilt attire, delighted his admirers with unexpected news of the arrival of his newborn daughter. Jonny and his wife Olivia, who tied the knot in a discreet ceremony last year, happily welcomed their baby girl, Theodora, last week.
Previously married to Caroline, with whom he shares a son, Jonny found love again with Olivia, a PR executive and daughter of the late Queen’s former communications secretary, Simon Lewis. The birth announcement for Theodora was featured in The Times, stating, “THOMPSON on 20th May 2026 to Olivia (née Lewis) and Lieutenant Colonel Jonny, a daughter, Theodora.”
Jonny, a soldier from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, is frequently seen sporting his traditional kilt during official duties with the King. Equerries, drawn from the armed forces, provide support to the royals in various settings, both private and public.
Having been by the King’s side since the beginning of his reign, Jonny has played pivotal roles at significant events such as the late Queen’s funeral, the Coronation, and the recent state visit to the US with Charles and Camilla, where they met Donald Trump. Jonny was also present at the Platinum Jubilee service for the late Queen in 2022, seated behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and welcomed PM Rishi Sunak during his visit to Buckingham Palace.
In addition to his growing online fan base, Jonny has garnered attention from Tatler magazine for his impeccable style and charisma, earning praise for his ability to effortlessly switch between formal and traditional attire.
Apart from Jonny, the King has access to other deputies like Lieutenant Commander Will Thornton, Captain Hugh Scrope, and Captain Kat Anderson, the first female equerry to the sovereign.
