A British woman detained in an Iranian prison on espionage charges is reportedly receiving medical treatment via an intravenous drip as her health condition worsens.
Lindsay and Craig Foreman, a couple aged 52, were arrested in Iran on January 3 during a motorcycle journey around the globe. Originating in Australia, the British pair traveled through Iran en route from Pakistan to Armenia. Despite their family’s firm denial of the espionage accusations, Lindsay and Craig remain in custody as efforts persist to secure their release and return home.
Lindsay is currently held at the Qarchak women’s prison near Tehran, separated from her husband. Their son, Joe Bennett, expressed concerns about his mother’s deteriorating health, noting that she recently required intravenous therapy while detained.
The conditions at the notorious women’s prison have drawn criticism from human rights organizations, describing the facility as deplorable. Lindsay shares a cell with 70 other women and sleeps on a bare metal bed without a mattress.
Joe, in an interview with The Times, shared updates on his parents’ health status. He mentioned that Craig is suffering from a tooth abscess while detained in Evin prison, where Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was held for almost six years. Joe highlighted Craig’s medical complaints, including ongoing illnesses and dental care issues, emphasizing the distressing circumstances.
The family is actively advocating for the couple’s release, with plans to meet with Yvette Cooper on October 16. Craig and Lindsay are scheduled for a court appearance, the purpose of which remains unclear to their family, who anticipates a delayed outcome notification possibly extending into the following week.
While the family remains cautiously optimistic, citing the recent release of another detained British couple in Afghanistan, they recognize the contrasting circumstances but find solace in the possibility of a positive resolution.
