A major airline has reassured travelers that flight cancellations are unlikely this summer due to jet fuel shortages, as Brits gear up for holiday getaways.
Air France, in collaboration with partner KLM, has issued a statement indicating no anticipated disruptions to fuel supplies during July and August.
Concerns about potential flight disruptions amid the summer travel season arose following joint military actions by the US and Israel targeting key Iranian facilities on February 28.
In response, Iran carried out retaliatory strikes across the Middle East and temporarily closed the critical Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil trade, through which 20% of the world’s oil passes.
Despite initial concerns, several airlines, including Air France, have downplayed fears of fuel shortages, ensuring passengers that their summer travel plans remain intact.
The statement from Air France-KLM mentioned, “The airlines are confident in their ability to maintain the flight schedule for the upcoming summer months, based on current information and monitoring of fuel availability.”
CEO Benjamin Smith affirmed, “Air France, KLM, and Transavia are committed to accommodating all travelers during the summer season, with nearly 2,200 daily flights to over 320 destinations worldwide.”
The airlines are also introducing enhanced flexibility for customers, with a promotional campaign offering free ticket changes for departures from France starting June 3, 2026.
Similarly, a campaign will be rolled out by KLM and Transavia in the near future for trips originating in the Netherlands, providing passengers with added booking flexibility.
The airlines have assured customers that in the event of fuel cost increases, no fare adjustments will be applied to existing bookings, offering peace of mind and confidence in booking future travel.
