Hawaiian Airlines will be implementing a new policy effective July, where complimentary meals during flights will no longer be provided. Passengers flying between Hawaii and the US mainland previously enjoyed free meals as part of the airline’s services. However, the airline recently announced that complimentary meals will not be automatically included anymore.
Travelers will now need to purchase pre-selected meals from a new menu, with the option to do so between two weeks before departure and 20 hours prior to takeoff. The prices for these meals are anticipated to range between approximately $10 to $17 per meal.
Notably, Main Cabin passengers on flights between Honolulu and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport will still receive complimentary meals. The airline has collaborated with Maui-based chef Sheldon Simeon to curate the menu, featuring local favorites like crispy mochiko chicken with garlic noodles and barbecue teriyaki chicken bento.
Alisa Onishi, the Managing Director of Hawai‘i Marketing at Hawaiian Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to authentic Hawaiian hospitality despite the changes. She highlighted that while complimentary meals may no longer be standard, passengers can still enjoy free beverages, local snacks, and a sweet treat at the end of the flight.
In addition to the main cabin changes, Business Class and First Class menus are being updated, although complimentary snacks will continue to be available during flights. The airline aims to cater to guests’ dining preferences by offering a broader menu through the new pre-order model.
This shift reflects Hawaiian Airlines’ dedication to enhancing the passenger experience and providing a taste of the island’s culinary delights.
