In a collaborative effort, the monarch has partnered with former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate to introduce a fresh program through the King’s Trust aimed at assisting young individuals in reentering the workforce.
This new nationwide initiative is set to provide support for 18 to 30-year-olds in securing employment through mentorship programs, online tools, and work exposure opportunities starting in 2027. The initiative was inaugurated by Charles and the ex-England coach as they interacted with 20 youths who have already benefited from the King’s Trust employment support.
One of the beneficiaries, Trishna Lamichhane, 28, expressed her gratitude towards Charles for enabling her to gain work experience through the trust’s retail program. Charles conveyed his pride in her for overcoming challenges.
During the Youth Opportunity Summit, Lamichhane shared her journey of relocating from Nepal to Belfast, highlighting the initial difficulties she faced in securing interviews due to cultural differences in the workplace. She credited the King’s Trust for her current job satisfaction and self-pride.
Lamichhane, now working in HR at Marks & Spencer, mentioned Charles’ elation upon learning about her role in assisting other young individuals in kickstarting their careers, emphasizing his pride in her achievements.
This initiative follows a recent report revealing that over a million individuals aged 16 to 24 are currently not engaged in education, employment, or training. Sir Gareth, serving as a charity ambassador for the King’s Trust, emphasized the untapped potential among youth that requires timely support to nurture their self-belief and talents.
Before the King’s arrival, young attendees received guidance and counseling from leaders in various sectors, including business, sports, civil society, and media, including Sir Gareth.
Reflecting on the event, Sir Gareth stressed the significance of mentorship in empowering youth from diverse career backgrounds, highlighting the impact of belief and guidance in their journeys towards success.
The summit also saw Charles engaging with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, along with notable personalities like Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Davis, and Sonali Shah, who participated in the mentoring sessions.
To date, the Trust has positively impacted over 1.3 million young individuals in the UK over the last five decades, dedicated to combating youth unemployment and fostering brighter prospects for the younger generation.
