“Darren Jones Regrets Epstein Connection Apology to Mandelson”

Date:

Darren Jones is facing criticism for expressing regret to Peter Mandelson for his dismissal related to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

The message from the Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary surfaced recently, not included in the most recent release of Mandelson files. This revelation followed Jones’ apology to Epstein’s victims in Parliament.

In a complimentary message to the ousted former British Ambassador to the US, Jones praised Mandelson’s work with Trump and his overall performance. Jones also took a swipe at Government advisers and hinted at seeking a promotion during a Cabinet reshuffle.

Jones, head of the Cabinet Office and overseeing the Mandelson files release, has been defending against accusations of a cover-up by excluding certain messages. He explained that some messages might not have been backed up due to device changes or disappearing messages settings.

In published messages, Jones expressed sympathy to Mandelson upon his dismissal as Ambassador, complimenting his achievements. He also shared concerns about the handling of growth plans by other officials.

Additionally, Jones discussed his career aspirations with Mandelson, indicating interest in specific government departments for potential advancement. He expressed a preference to replace another official and criticized the performance of his colleagues.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby expressed discomfort with Jones’ message to Mandelson but emphasized Jones’ acknowledgment of the situation and his reflection on the Epstein scandal.

Regarding gender dynamics and abuse issues, Rigby highlighted that the problem extends beyond Westminster, emphasizing global implications revealed by the Epstein saga.

In response to questions about his comments on the growth strategy, Rigby suggested that messages sent in frustration at work should not be overemphasized.

During debates on the Mandelson files, Jones apologized to victims and MPs for treating situations differently due to his influence within the Labour Party.

Jones acknowledged potential biases in his treatment of Mandelson and expressed regret for benefiting from their relationship. He pledged to take corrective action in response to the revelations.
