“Sydney ‘Night Stalker’ Serial Rapist Pleads Guilty”

Date:

Glenn Gary Cameron, aged 61, has been identified as a serial rapist who committed a series of assaults on eight women over a two-year period in the early 1990s. Known as the ‘Night Stalker’ or the ‘Moore Park rapist’, Cameron confessed to multiple charges related to the rapes after DNA testing on a beer glass linked him to the crimes.

Following a review of cold cases utilizing advanced DNA and fingerprint technologies, detectives apprehended Cameron at Sydney International Airport last February. By conducting a familial search on the national criminal DNA database, authorities connected Cameron’s daughter to DNA evidence from four historical cases.

Upon learning of Cameron’s travel plans from Alice Springs to Thailand, law enforcement set up an operation at the airport. Covertly collecting a beer glass and fork used by Cameron for DNA testing, they confirmed his involvement in the assaults and subsequently arrested him.

Cameron has since pleaded guilty to over a dozen charges, including 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault with a weapon, targeting eight women in Sydney between 1991 and 1993. The victims, ranging from 17 to 45 years old at the time of the attacks, were primarily of Asian descent and often encountered Cameron near train stations.

His modus operandi typically involved offering cleaning work to victims before leading them to Moore Park, where he would brandish a knife and commit sexual assaults. Some victims were coerced into posing for photographs before being released.

Initially denying the charges during police questioning, Cameron eventually admitted to 13 offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault, and indecent assault. Additionally, he acknowledged 14 further charges, such as indecent assault and detainment for advantage, which will be considered during sentencing.

During the early 1990s, Cameron worked at a funeral home in Newtown, having been discharged from the army for drug use and absenteeism. Despite his reckless past, including drug abuse and homelessness, he later married and had children with his second wife, whom he met after her relocation from Thailand to Australia.

Scheduled for sentencing next month, Cameron’s reign of terror has finally come to light after decades of eluding justice.
